What is the difference between channel 242 and channel 505?

Both are labeled "Discovery HD" in the Rogers line-up.
And there are two "non-HD" "Discovery" channels: 42 and 241
Do you know by chance what is the difference between these channels?
Maybe one pair is the "Discovery Canada" and the other one "Discovery US" ?
If so, which is which? And if so, which of the HD channels is part of the "digital pack" ?

See post 3 of the following thread regarding "remapping":

Why Same Station On Different Channels?

Discovery HD airs only the HD programming, with lots of repeats.

We don't get Discovery US.

Here's the link to Rogers HD offering and what's necessary to get Discovery HD or NG-HD.:

They are repeats of the same channels. It is this way because they are grouped by theme pack I believe.

Edit: 57 beat me to it :P

Let's not go to Camelot, it is a silly place.

Maybe Rogers should take Discovery HD out of the specialty pack - they shouldn't force me to buy other canadian channels to get Discovery Canada HD ... The CRTC rule is ment to be used for american channels not for canadian ones ....

It is rather bizarre how they group the HDs.

The Rogers "MeTV" channels of Showcase (39), Bravo! (40), Life Network (41) and Discovery Chanel (42) were ALL launched on the same day (Jan. 1, 1995), yet Discovery-HD and Showcase-HD aren't free if you subscribe to the analog grouping.

American Channels like A&E (32), TNN (32), CNN (33) and TLC (34) are the post-basic cable chanels. Yet, Rogers gives you CNN-HD and TLC-HD for free IF you subscribe to that analog package grouping. But A&E is in a separate package.

It doesn't make sense the way they treat certain HD channels, other then Rogers wants to squeeze as much money out of customers as the can.

Is TLC-HD going to be free to anyone who subscribes to the analogue channel or is it being offered as a preview?

Discovery HD is not the same as Discovery Canada -- different programming, different channel. So, putting it in a premium pack makes sense.

Showcase HD, OTOH, is an "HD simulcast" as far as I can see. Perhaps it's a contract issue between Alliance (now CanWest Global) and each provider?
