Almost any article on the subject that I have read rates the nVIDIA Shield as the best Kodi box. It also does gaming and comes with a gaming controller. A remote must be purchased separately.

Other brands that are very good and recommended by the Kodi project are Minix and WeTek. I have a somewhat dated Minix Neo X7 and it works well. Minix provides good support for their products. They have some newer boxes that are more powerful. They also make a very good RF remote.

As well as, a good chunk of the content that is on cable TV.. if its on the android, its an 'illegal' stream as well.

Not to say, there are not 1000's of legal things to watch via the android...

I second the Shield as the best android tv box, I've had a wide selection of android tv boxes, while the off shore ones have come way up in quality and stability they still can't touch true android TV.

Currently I have a Nexus Player and Nvidia Shield. Very happy with both. Shield is great for gaming. If you really only want for Netflix, Youtube, Google Music etc. try out a Chromecast. I run a couple of those too,

Chromecast main draw back is non-supported apps. Prime Video off a PC works, but off a phone or tablet, not so much.

Been trying to get a hold of a Mi Box too.

That depends on the Android kernel being used. My Minix 7 had a 720p kernel originally but was updated to to a 1080i kernel with Android 4.4. It's certainly something to be aware of though. Some of the newer boxes can do 1080p, or UHDTV. That's something to look for, as well as HDMI 2.0 or better if UHDTV is desired.
