I have a file that the blue ray quality and it is 6.6G size and when I play it in vlc media player 1.0.5, it is very croppy.
I am using a toshiba notebook Pentium dual T3400 2.16G w/ 2G ram and 200g hd. vista home premium
is that due to the hardware, how can I improve this.
Your machine is too slow to play something like that properly on Vista. Get a better one or else put Linux on it with a simple window manager like XFCE and you will see that VLC will run much faster and smoother.
what is the min requirement for vista to run vlc, cpu, ram etc. on the other hand those netbook is almost impossible to run, is that right.
any suggestion for reasonable notebook to do something like this.
I plan to use one notebook to add a usb tuner and gbpvr too.
The minimum requirements for VLC really depend on what type of files you want to play with it. h264 (mkv) is a processor-heavy standard to decode. A faster CPU and more RAM could help. Also are you running a 32bit or 64bit OS?
Before you look into hardware upgrade, have you tried different software decoders? I would recommend trying either CoreAVC or FFdshow.
