This thread will discuss the schedule updates for the Bell Media Specialty Channels for the 2016-17 broadcast year. Note: The Movie Network (TMN) and HBO will be included here now that Bell Media have national rights to these premium channels. Bell Media's Entertainment Specialties Announce Exclusive New Series for 2016/17 Lineup

Bell Media announced today its lineup of exclusive new programming for its industry-leading entertainment specialty channels for the 2016/2017 season, led by the acquisition for Space of the highly anticipated DOCTOR WHO companion series CLASS from Stephen Moffat.

Just Can't Get Enough Homegrown TV: Bell Media Confirms 2016/17 Original Production Slate

Bell Media confirmed today its leading slate of new and returning original entertainment programming for the 2016/17 broadcast year in advance of the #CTVUpfront presentation in Toronto. Bell Media reinforces its industry leadership with original productions, including its recently announced commitment to produce all new original scripted series in 4K.

New Bell Media Original Series for 2016/17:

  • Discovery’s first-ever scripted original series FRONTIER, with its exclusive world debut in Canada this November, starring Jason Momoa (Discovery)
  • Based on bestselling crime novels, the murder-mystery CARDINAL starring Billy Campbell and Karinne Vanasse (CTV)
  • New serialized mystery drama THE DISAPPEARANCE about the vanishing of a 10-year-old boy (CTV)

As previously announced, original Canadian programming on Bell Media’s new food and lifestyle channel Gusto will include A IS FOR APPLE, ONE WORLD KITCHEN, and FISH THE DISH. Bell Media has entered into a production arrangement with industry veteran Chris Knight to supply exclusive Canadian programming for the network through Gusto Worldwide Media. The production commitment will allow Bell Media to grow Gusto’s roster of hit series with new original Canadian programming, all in 4K.

'Younger' renewed for Season 4; Season 3 coming in September

TV Land has renewed “Younger” for a 12-episode fourth season. TV Land will premiere season 3 on Wednesday, Sept. 28, followed by the Season 2 premiere of “Impastor,” which was originally scheduled for a summer debut.

In Canada, “Younger” aired on E!, while “Impastor” was shown on The Comedy Network.

Space Announces Fifth and Final Season of Ground-Breaking Original Thriller ORPHAN BLACK

Space announced today the renewal of the fifth and final season of ORPHAN BLACK. An additional 10, one-hour episodes are set to air in 2017 on Space. The Season 4 finale of the Peabody-winning series airs tonight at 10 p.m. ET on Space, followed by the finale of fan-favourite insider series, AFTER THE BLACK. The first three seasons of ORPHAN BLACK are streaming now on CraveTV.

ORPHAN BLACK is produced by Toronto-based Temple Street in association with Space and BBC America.

^HBO is not the ones doing this, it's D&D, the show-runners. They told HBO they have about 13 hours left, so HBO is doing what they need to do based on that. They're obviously not going to have MORE episodes than normal in a season, so rather than do the usual 10, they're splitting them up as fairly as possible.

'Ray Donovan' renewed for Season 5 at Showtime

Showtime has ordered a fifth season of its drama series “Ray Donovan.” Season 5 will run for 12 episodes and go into production in early 2017 for a premiere later in the year.

'Homeland' renewed through Season 8, gets 2017 premiere date with 'Billions'

Showtime announced a two-season pickup for “Homeland” They will premiere Season 6 of “Homeland” on Jan. 15 and Season 2 of “Billions” on Feb. 19.

All the above Showtime programs air on TMN in Canada.

'Dark Matter' and 'Killjoys' renewed at Syfy

Syfy has renewed sophomore space dramas “Killjoys” and “Dark Matter” for Season 3. Both series are shown on SPACE in Canada.

ADDED: Space To Move Forward with Season 3 of Its Most-Watched Original Series Ever, KILLJOYS - Bell Media

Space confirmed today that it has renewed its most-watched original series ever, KILLJOYS, committing to an additional 10, one-hour episodes. Season 3 begins production in Toronto this winter, and is expected to debut as part of Space’s popular summer lineup in 2017.
