This thread will discuss the schedule updates for City TV and OMNI broadcast networks from Rogers Media for the 2016-17 broadcast year.

I post schedule updates, series premieres and specials based on press releases as well as series renewals and cancellations as they are announced. I don't usually post on-going episode information, repeats, program descriptions or "PR-speak," so if you want more info, you can click on the associated link.

As a reminder, the following shows from the 2015-16 season have been cancelled by the U.S. network:

Bordertown (FOX)
Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life (FOX)
Grandfathered (FOX)
The Grinder (FOX)

The Muppets (ABC)
Rush Hour (CBS)

Starting Thursday next week, Thursday Night Football will be off CBS. In Canada, it will also be off City and go to SN exclusively. City then partly follows CBS Thursday (Mom and Life in Pieces).

However, TNF will be back OTA on week 11, Nov. 17, all the way to week 16. This time on NBC. What will City / Rogers do in this situation? Will City abandon its mid-Fall schedule and air TNF with simsub or will TNF stay on SN and thus losing simsub opportunity?

#14 ·
Are you talking about Superbowl rule. That CRTC ruling only applies to the Superbowl not the rest of the season. In general if an OTA broadcaster requests a simsub then the BDU must carry it out. If a speciality service like TSN or SN asks then it is up to the BDU's discretion as to whether to carry the simsub out.

#15 ·
Result of Let’s Talk TV hearings - Jan. 29 2015 - Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2015-25
...the Commission is of the view that BDUs should no longer be allowed to provide simultaneous substitution for specialty services and will amend the Regulations accordingly. This will contain simultaneous substitution to a narrow area of application, namely over-the-air signals.
Bell had appealed that policy and in Sept. 2016, the court ruled:
The court also dismissed an appeal of the CRTC policy that will disallow simsubs for specialty channels, such as Sportsnet and TSN, because that policy has not yet been implemented either.
I looked earlier today and still couldn't find any evidence that the CRTC actually changed the regulations, almost 2 years later.

Wednesday, Dec. 7
8 p.m. Hairspray Live! (s) **NEW – Three-hour Musical Event**

This will preempt the 1st season fall finale of Lethal Weapon which City TV will show on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m.

A new episode of black-ish will also be preempted. ABC also has a new episode on Dec. 14 for the fall finale, which City TV will simulcast. It's possible that City TV will show the Dec. 7 episode out of order on Dec. 21.

Note that Bones is moving from Global to City TV for the final season.

@jeffaustin90 I think City TV probably got that date from Fox. It makes sense that Fox would coordinate their broadcast schedule with their international partners so the partners can also plan their schedules. You'll notice that for other shows, City says "premiere dates to be announced at a later date."

#25 ·
Ah okay, makes sense. I also noticed that there's 9 episodes of The Last Man on Earth left to air, and there's also 9 episodes of Making History that Fox needs to air this year. If Fox wants their schedule to be all new (or at least new at 8:30 and 9:30) then they'll have Making History premiere on that day as well.

Does CityTV have Making History?

City TV has scheduled the special two-hour episode of Hell’s Kitchen on January 5 at 8 p.m., which will bump Mom and Life in Pieces off the schedule that day (9 and 9:30 respectively.) They will return the following week, but I don't see the missing episodes on City TV's schedule, so you may have to record them on CBS.
