Yeah I took a walk along King Edward St. today with my ipod nano tuned at 101.5 FM. Heard WRCD-FM the whole way. Lots of rock'n'roll, plenty of advertising, ID's on the hour. They included Ottawa in their ID too! Nifty..

My souces at Industry Canada confirmed to me that they have been shutdown. I am happy to have my 101.5 The Fox back to normal reception now. What a bad idea they had to have chosen that frequency, they would have lasted longer with a more empty spot on the dial.

Weather Network audio on 76.0Mhz FM

No, that's not a typo. I'm in Orleans, Ontario and when I switched my iPod Nano to Japanese FM band, I was surprised to hear audio from the weather network and other channels on exactly 76.0 (the lowest frequency on the Japanese FM band). I am baffled as to what the source could be. I was wondering if anyone else on here with the right equipment in the area could also be receiving this?

It doesn't seem to be a VHF Channel 5 signal since that would be at 81.75Mhz
Since the channel changes from time to time I wonder if it isn't someone's cable box?

james, you say "other channels"... Could you elaborate?

Sounds to me like a leaky ch3 or ch4 analogue output from a STB or VCR or similar device, often caused by really crappy cables between devices, or a horribly leaky TV or device. Plastic housings are notorious for this kind of thing.

If it was a leaky cable company run, you'd get more channels spread across that spectrum as opposed to various channels from time to time on a single frequency... :-)

One side effect of cable going digital is it places tougher demands on the systems to use better quality cable, thus reducing "egress", the signal leakage from cable, and likewise, "ingress", signals getting into cable systems.

Taking that radio portable could help sleuth the source.

I was away for the weekend, apologies for not getting back to this sooner.

Other channels, means that it sounds like I'm listening to someone watching TV, occasionally, I hear silence for half a second, then the audio of a different channel.

Listening for 20 minutes I heard Weather Network for a while, then it switched to CTV, then some other program..

I would have expected audio at 65.75 Mhz or 71.75 Mhz if it were Channel 3/4 leaking, could it be some sort of wireless delivery system in someone's house?

Based on the order I hear different channels, I'm pretty sure this person is flipping through channels on the local cable system (rogers).

That question I think pretty well nails it.

Could be a portable "FM" wireless speaker system. We have one of those.

Could also be a hearing aid adaption that connects to the TV.

The 76MHz frequency does seem out of tolerance though, and suggests an imported device or one designed for the domestic market of Canada / North America that has somehow got itself out of alignment.

last night on lunch at work found CBC 1 on 91.5 which as far as I can tell is either from Ottawa, Barrie or Orillia. This was just on my car radio and as I couldn't sit and listen all night for an announcement of the location, im not really sure if this was one of those stations, or if some how the local 88.1 was somehow bleeding through on a different freq.

Also the signal was strong and actually louder than the local 88.1

Yep, the OTA TV tropo threads in French and English also mention good tropo and skip happening in your area.

yeah I was thinking it was coming in from amazing distances going on information from cbc's frequency pdf which doesn't list a leamington station.

Only listed two stations on 91.9 one from hearst one from fraserdale, both up on the trans-canada somewhere. But then figured it had to be wrong since it seemed way to strong for too long.

E-Skip (Caught from Stokes Bay, ON)

WZBQ 94.1 - Tuscaloosa, AL
WQST 92.5 - Forest, MS
KVDU (Formerly KOBU) 104.1 - New Orleans, LA
WMSI 102.9 - Jackson, MS
WYNK 101.5 - Baton Rouge, LA
WMTM 93.9 - Moultrie, GA

Up here the local band is empty except CBC Radio 1 98.7.
All other local stations are over 30km away providing a great DX opportunity (especially along Lake Huron) such as this.

One that always amazes me is the 5ish km radius around my location that 99% of the time receives CFPL-FM (FM96) from London, no matter what season weather condition etc.

Currently picking up some Lethbridge and Red Deer stations here in Calgary... on my cell phone. Considering one of the Lethbridge stations is adjacent to our traffic information station I would say it's a good catch.
