Happy Summer Solstice

Being its the longest day of the year (and shortest night) in Canada, has anyone made any unusual plans to celebrate this event......maybe a midnight BBQ dressed in a hooded costume ????

Hmmm...I hadn't planned on anything, but I guess I could spend the day griping that "Winter's just around the corner!"

I'm in Norway for the summer on business, almost near the article circle. It's been close to 24-hour daylight for me for weeks now! I think we may have a few hours of dusk between 11:30 and 3:30am. But I do plan to celebrate tonight, after all, how often does Friday come along?

Since this is a forum I will have to say. It's actually NOT the longest day. Simply the day with the most sunlight

Having said that it'll probably be just a regular Friday night - you know, get liqueured up, go for a drive in my NOS powered street racer and play fun games like mailbox baseball - or we'll just watch a movie.

Yes thats true Hugh, so the longest day of the year is Dec 31 as the rotation of the earth is slowing down a tiny bit each year. You should win the Glow Stick award for that...

Nothing out of the ordinary. Just painting myself blue, coming down out of my tree and dancing around naked.

so the longest day of the year is Dec 31
January and February contain the longest days of the year due to the dominant west to east winds in the northern hemisphere. And you thought it was just the winter blues!

My heart goes out to the male Emperor penguins in the Antarctic, who are smack in the middle of the coldest and darkest winter on Earth.
