Arar Named Among Most Influential People
Maher Arar says he is honoured to be on the Time Magazine list as one of the world's 100 most influential people. In a statement issued through the Centre for Constitutional Rights, Arar expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his "struggle for justice."
Arar was deported by US authorities to Syria in 2002, where he was imprisoned and tortured. A Canadian Inquiry exonerated the Syrian-born Canadian citizen of any suspected terrorist involvement last year.
Arar was awarded a $10.5-million compensation package in January.
