Public Mobile, Wal-Mart in Talks on Canada Phone Plan

Public Mobile Holdings Inc., a new Canadian wireless carrier, is talking to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. about selling phones with unlimited call plans to lure users who have shunned Rogers Communications Inc. and BCE Inc.

The Toronto-based startup plans to sell through its own stores, independent retailers as well as big drugstore and grocery chains, Chief Executive Officer Alek Krstajic said.

A curious business strategy to target a market that doesn't have a wireless phone because it cost too much and shops at Wal-mart because it doesn't have any money to spare. Are the customers expected to restrain themselves in the grocery aisle so they can shop at the Public Access kiosk?

Recently, I was interested in new phones and plans for my daughter and I.

I have decided to wait a few months to see what happens at Christmas time.

Uhh, when's the last time you were in Walmart? I've seen more people there with cell phones than most other stores. Their market is people who want to save money, not always just people who don't have money.

Well put. Walmart also already sells a lot of cell phones and plans from all the carriers.
