toslink splitter

I bought a toslink splitter to split the output from my tv.
to go to my soundbar and another device.
I'm trying just to my soundbar first.
I tried 2 different cables with and without the splitter.
Both work when going directly from the tv to the soundbar.
I tried both cables before and after the splitter.
The newer cable "snaps" into the splitter.
The end of both cables after the splitter show a red light.

What do you think the chance is the soundbar needs the full signal?
What do you think the chance I need a new toslink cable is?

It's also possible that he splitter is substandard or defective. Have you tried this with the other audio device?

I read that trying shorter toslink cables might work and it did.
Apparently one 6' cable is ok so I had to use two 3' cables (I ordered another short cable).
It works. :-)
