some soundbar questions

My tv can output 5.1 dolby digital (ya, old :-)).

1. If the source (PVR) is DTS then am I wasting money by buying a dolby digital soundbar?
2. The Yamaha-107 has DTS X:Virtual but I read that that doesn't work with any dolby signals (only DTS 5.1 or 2ch PCM).
Yamaha hasn't confirmed that.
3. Is there any benefit in buying a sound bar with more drivers (eg. 6 or 9 vs just 3) for a 3.0 soundbar?

Don't know who said the YAS-107 doesn't support Dolby but the specs say it does. It's rare for any audio device to support DTS and not Dolby. If anything, it's usually either both or only Dolby supported and not DTS.

I'd also be interested in what PVR outputs DTS and not Dolby. I've yet to see a PVR that does that or even one that supports DTS. The standard for HDTV signals is Dolby so it would be a rare PVR that doesn't support it. I've seen some PC software that supports audio passthrough but even that will often convert DTS or Dolby to the other format if configured to do so.

I wasn't clear, the yas-107 DTS X:Virtual doesn't work with dolby.
I'm not sure it has any virtual sound processing besides the DTS X:Virtual.

I made up a PVR that outputs DTS, I assumed they existed.
I want a soundbar that supports everything but maybe I am unrealistic.

From what I can see, it doesn't work with Dolby Atmos which is the competitor to DTS Virtual:X. Other Dolby formats are supported. Not sure I'd bother with either at this time. It's unclear which format will dominate, if either, and source material is scarce at this time. From the review I read, it appears that the YAS-107 doesn't do that good a job with DTS Virtual:X anyway.
