No Sound - Optical Cable To Receiver?

Hello all,

Long time lurker in need of some help.
I could call tech support but I'd appreciate help from some of the knowledageble people here and but a rapport with you all.

I currently have put a UNF658500 Samsung on a wall and have it connected to a Yamaha HTR6290B.
Unfortunately I can't get sound out of the Smart Hub mode when opening apps such as Netflix, Youtube etc.

The output on the TV is set to "Audio Out/Optical", I've cycled through ALL inputs on my receiver and still can't get sound. The optical cable was never removed from the receiver, just plugged into the new TV.

The TV replaced a 7100 65" Samsung where I had no sound issues.
The optical cable is the same.

Is there a step I missed? Could it be a defect in the TV itself? When I switch the speaker mode back to the TV speakers, I get sound.

Regular TV/PS4 ETC which run through the Samsung One-Connect to the receiver have no issues either.

Any help or input (pun intended) would be greatly appreciated!

You seems to have gone through most of the steps that i would have thought of.

Appears your output is set right. I would try maybe disabling and re enabling it.

That you had it working on the receiver before.. it should need to be on that same input. Usually you have to define on that input, that it is is to use that as its input.
But if it was working before, that should be set alright.

Re-seat the cable? make sure its making a proper connection.

My only question.. you say the regular TV/PS4 works.. they are going into the TV and then out to the receiver? And they work?

Sounds like it should be then a setting, specifically for any 'apps' on the tv itself?

I have a 2+ ish old samsung TV (Forget the model). And i use the optical out on it to my AVR.. specifically for the smart TV features. And works just fine.

Rogers 9865, LG 47LV5400 LED TV, Onkyo HT-R690.

Thanks for the input.

I tried all digital inputs on the AVR and another brand new cable and no sound.

I think I've narrowed it down to two scenarios:

The optical port on the TV is defective or the Samsung OneConnect is causing the issue.
