Ummm... I'm not a sports fan, but I thought CBC lost the NHL to CTV... or does that start with the 2014 season?

How I cought this was I noticed Coronation Street had moved to a weird time for an episode.... checked the Beyond TV advance 2 week schedule and sure enough... Hockey...

If CBC's got it this year, then maybe I'll stick to the Sunday repeats to bypass the hockey effect... :)

Interesting because I got told by somebody at CBC Charlottetown that this year our local CBC outlet has been declared to be Montreal territory. In other words where multiple games are available and one is a Montreal game the Montreal game is broadcast. I guess I shouldn't believe everything I hear.

TSN coverage of hockey during the week leaves a lot to be desired at least for me. There is something about CBC's HNIC that just exudes class, tradition and respect for the game. TSN can be brash, loud and at times quick but inaccurate. I would hate to see Sat. night hockey relegated to TSN especially since that would exclude just about everybody who currently watches their TV via OTA only. It was one thing for this to happen to CFL football including the Grey Cup itself (which should at least be on the CTV) but it would be a sacrilege and a tragedy if hockey followed suit.

@welder: I'm glad to hear you're 95% certain but I'm sorry to hear that your certainty is more like a "faith". As several here have asked you, what's your evidence? Insulting the readers with a flat earth comment doesn't constitute a "proof".

While the conflict with their deal with the CFL could be an issue, a bigger problem with TSN getting an exclusive deal is that they only have 2 channels and thus can only show 2 games at a time. Also, the NHL makes more money by having two contracts (one for broadcast and one for cable) than they do with only one as the two networks will get into a bidding war for the edge in broadcast rights.

IMHO if the NHL did agree to a single deal, it is much more likely for Bell to win an exclusive contract and have rights to show games on both CTV and TSN. Saturday nights are pretty dead on CTV, being filled mostly with re-runs, and second rate programmes. They might be happy to show hockey instead. There might be issues come playoff time, as they may not want to drop their weekday, prime-time American programming, but they do have CTV Two to help carry the load.

BTW. I agree with you on both counts reidw. TSN has some pretty brash and loud announcers that are painful to listen to. The best of them makes Bob Cole seem like a super star. Also welder's flat earth hand waving is hardly scientific proof. He sounds like one of TSN's announcers. ;)

Facts need to be backed up with proof and opinions should be stated as such. Opinions should never be stated as fact.

The CBC has released its distribution for the split telecast of the 1600h Pacific, 1900h Eastern games for November 16.

New York Rangers at Montreal is for the province of Quebec only.

Buffalo at Toronto is for everywhere else.

For November 9, it is the first time this season that there will be no Saturday split telecasts. The first game has the Leafs at Bruins and the second game has the Canucks at Kings.

I'm more curious about November 23 if CBC Windsor will pick up Ottawa @ Detroit or instead broadcast Washington @ Toronto. I guess we'll find out soon.
They will for sure have Ottawa @ Detroit...

why doesn`t shaw put the other 2 games on channels 302-310...those channels are empty
Just because there are free channel numbers doesn't mean they have bandwidth for more channels. With digital TV the channel numbers you see are meaningless. In reality they only have 134 real channels to work with (2-135). Some of those will be used for analog programming, one station per channel, however in digital they can squeeze multiple stations in one channel so the real channel will be something like 95.3. Since that is confusing for people, they remap it to a virtual channel number (a whole number between 1 and 999, though there is no reason they couldn't go up to channel 9999 or even 99,999) and tell your digital box which of these virtual channel maps to which real channel. They leave holes in their channel numbering to allow them group channels together in some way that they think makes sense and to leave room for more channels in each group should they get more bandwidth (for example if they drop an analog channel they can add somewhere between 3 and 10 digital TV channels, depending if it is SD or HD and how much they decide to butcher, I mean compress, the signal).
