The CBC has released its distribution for the split telecast of the 1600h Pacific, 1900h Eastern games for December 7.

Winnipeg at Tampa Bay is for the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Toronto at Ottawa is for British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, the Atlantic provinces, and the territories.

Buffalo at Montreal is for the province of Quebec only.

This past Saturday (November 30) was the second time this season that there will were no split telecasts. The first game had the Leafs at Canadiens and the second game had the Flames at Kings.

The current TV deal that is about to expire places limitations on the amount of HNIC games during the regular season that the Leafs can play on. No other Canadian team faces this "max" rules. CBC chose this to be one of the three times during the year that there would be no Leafs game on a Saturday.

And it precisely because of this blatant discrimination that I was delighted to learn last year that MLSE was seriously considering telling Bettman to leave the Leafs completely out of the next national contract because they wanted to offer all Leafs games to all their fans from coast to coast on an expanded version of Leafs TV (at a price of course). I fear that the new deal will make it harder for Leafs fans outside of S. Ontario to see their team regularly as now they now have to share CBC, CITY, Sportsnet and a revamped Centre Ice/Gamecenter Live package with all of the other teams.

That is correct about the Habs not being shown across Canada. The Penguins-Canadiens game a few weeks ago was shown only in Atlantic Canada and Quebec, a very poor decision by CBC Sports. Fans can also pay extra for timeshifting to get CBC Montreal. It is ridiculous how the CBC every week is conceding its viewers to a rival network to watch the Canadiens.

If CBC wants to continually subject the country outside of Ontario to the Leafs at every opportunity, that is their choice. I am at least somewhat grateful, as a Habs fan in Toronto, to being able to see them in SD via timeshifting this time since they weren't on just in Montreal.

However, what I would really like explained to me is when the Toronto game was a blowout and the Habs - Sens game was tied in the 3rd period, why wouldn't they cut away to the more competitive game (except in Ontario)? Yes, I have a selfish reason for asking that, since I get CBC Vancouver in HD. But what goes into the decision to stick with the blowout game when there was an alternative for more compelling programming?

Jaymeister, while I tend to agree with you, I suspect the problem is at what threshold do you make the decision to pull the plug on one game and show the other? Even worse, what would happen if the loosing team in the blowout scored a few quick goals and started to make a game of it?

If they did decide to switch games, it would likely be done between the second and third period, so in fairness last Saturday, Ottawa was up 3-1 at that point and seemed to have their game well in hand (though it wasn't the 5-1 lead the NYR had over the Leafs).

All will be resolved next year when each network will show the same game nation wide, so it will be easier for the viewer to make the choice.

DSGamby's post shows the CBC's hypocrisy. The mandate to show two canadian teams nation wide is not true. Last week, there was the Senators-Habs game and it was not the HNIC national game. This upcoming Saturday has the Oilers at Jets and that will not be the national game. Finally, when the HNIC schedule was released, the CBC in its infinite wisdom decided not to televise the October 19 Oilers at Senators game. That game was shown regionally on Sportsnet East and West.

The CBC has released its distribution for the split telecast of the 1500h Pacific, 1800h Eastern games for February 8. The games start an hour earlier than normal due to Olympic programming commencing immediately after the game has ended.

Montreal at Carolina is for the province of Quebec only.

Vancouver at Toronto is for everywhere else.

For February 1, it is the third time this season that there will be no Saturday split telecasts. It will be a tripleheader as it is Super Bowl weekend. The first game has the Lightning at Habs followed by the Senators at Leafs and the third game has the Wild at Flames.
