How to create a 1280x480 from two 640x480 clips

So I've got a few clips, about 10-15 seconds long each, from two different angles.

I'd like to watch both at the same time.

If they were JPGs, I'd use to create a canvas twice as wide, and paste in the individual pics.

Perhaps you know of something for videos?

You didn't provide any other details about your setup or what software you're familiar with, but here is a Google search with some information using different software products.

Virtualdub can do it ... I think.

And AviSynth. Here is a tutorial.

+1 for avisynth, plus whichever video editor you like (vdub is really easy if you're doing basics).
avisynth stitches them together and creates a virtual output file you then open with a video editor to work with.
