deep colour 36-bit questions

ok this term has been tossed around alot, and as far as I know no panels can display this. the reason I'm interested is because I have not seen a single display that has a smooth colour transition in certain situations; for example failure to evenly blend colours in a sunset or a candle in a dark scene uneven transition from light to dark. I always see those lines, bands whatever you wanna call them. I know lots of TV's advertise 14-bit, 16-bit, even 18-bit video prosessing yet the actual panels are still 10-bit. This is as I understand it why . sony only has 10-bit processors since the panels are only ever 10 bit. So Feel free to correct me if I am misinformed. and please share your knowledge about this "deep colour"

I would bet 36-bit is marketing speak for what others would call 12-bit (x3 color channels).
