Since Smart TV's are now computer-like, I understand that they need 2-3 minutes to boot up like a computer before you can start watching programs. Apparently, this can happen when the Smart TV has been turned off for 3-4 days or longer, so to turn it back on takes a few moments before it gets going again. If this is true, I'm looking for a way to configure an "instant on" type of option, even when the TV has been turned off for several days. My best guess is that it's possible to turn off the Smart TV option, and this would allow for "instant on" usage. I don't own a Smart TV just yet, but I'm looking at buying an OLED 4K TV when they become available in 2016.
Thanks for any tips on how to configure Smart TV's so that they have an "instant on" functionality, even when they have been turned off for several days.
Most newer TVs have at least two power settings under the user menu. One is for minimum energy usage in standby (off) and this means the TV takes a bit longer to start, typically uses only a Watt or two in standby, but typically it comes on in a few seconds. They have another setting which uses a bit more power (a few Watts) in standby (off) and keeps the circuitry warm. They then start in a few seconds less. I don't recall any TV I've ever encountered taking minutes to start. My guess would be most take about 10-20 seconds. I have not optimized any OLEDs, but I have optimized thousands of different TVs.
The tv isn't doing an update is it? When they update their software it can take a little longer to get full control back, especially when using the smart part of the tv (Samsung hub updates for example). New tv's sometimes take an occasional update, but most of the time they come on right away.
Even right after an update, my LG WebOS TV takes no longer than 30 seconds to start up. It might take slightly linger before I can access the smart apps, but otherwise things are ready to go pretty quickly
I am wondering if the smart apps is more what they were talking about?
My previous LG wasnt too bad..
My current Samsung can take sometimes up to TWO minutes to be able to access the web apps on it.
Its connected wirelessly right now (as the router is like 2 ft underneith it), but i beleive the wait time may be the wireless card booting up and connecting to the network, being rather slow.
One of these days, i will connect it wired and see if it makes a difference.
Heck, even changing it to a static address might speed up the startup time on the wireless.
