Being that it's merely an "announcement" and not an "event", my first thought was The Beatles catalogue; something like cloud-based iTunes or streaming or whatever would seem to call for some type of "event" with demos and the like.

Looks like it's the Beatles catalog.

Any true hardcore fan would already have digitized their own personal catalog... a bit of a let down IMO.

As a Beatles fan, I don't give a rats behind about Itunes.

I purchased the complete Beatles collection on CD (and ripped to my hard drive) so I am a fan but Beatles songs showing up in iTunes is NOT really that notable let alone earth shattering.

Wasn't the whole catalog already available through other etailers such as Amazon?

I think Apple lost some marketing credibility in overhyping this.

I debate objective data, not subjective my favourite ___ is better than yours rants which usually flame out quickly.

hmm, the earth did not move.

I think Apple did themselves a disservice today. Simply disenfranchised a lot of bloggers and tech writers who will be more skeptical and more critical of Apple in the future.

I don't think the Beatles were available on any download service other than cover bands. I could be wrong though.

I agree with Hugh though this was a huge let down. The PR department for Apple should know that when they put up this type of announcement "A Day we will never forget". Come on there is no defending them on this one at least.

Looks like they wrangled a one-year exclusive...

Other sources are reporting that sales are brisk, with Beatles tracks accounting for fifty of the top 200 yesterday.

Thanx to this announcement Amazon has reduced the recent mono and stereo boxsets.

Thanx Apple.
