During the past month or so, I've noticed some weird macroblocking on this channel on my recordings (I view it on Rogers 532) . It's not too terrible, but the macroblocking seems to be (mostly) restricted to the bottom of the screen in line with the KCTS logo.
It's most noticeable when a shot is panning vertically say panning down a tall building or something similar. If there is a lot of motion on screen, the macroblocking can extend outside the area at the bottom of the screen, but mostly it's near the bottom.
Has anyone else noticed this? I record the following programming:
- Nova
- Frontline
- Ask This Old House
- This Old House
- The Guilty - a recent 3 part series
- Dr. Blake Mysteries
- The Brain with David Eagleman
- Martha Stewart's Cooking School
- Jacques Pépin
- several other programmes based on interest like Great Performances, Some of the Mystery Series.
I have not seen this on PBS Buffalo (Rogers 525), where I have recorded identical programming for comparison. I'm trying to figure out if it's the Channel, if it's the intermediary to Rogers (Shaw?), if it's Rogers, or if it's something with my PVR (9865). I'll have to record something on my 8300HD to see if it's there too. I have not seen anything similar on other channels.
