VOD data usage

Does anyone know how much data the VOD system uses?

I mean does it download/upload stuff to the DVR even we are not using it?

And when watching a HD show of about an hour, how much data would that be?

I am trying to get an idea of just how much data it uses.

An hour of HD video can burn as much as a Gig. I'm pretty sure the VOD system is just basic streaming, so when you back out it stops downloading. I don't think it even buffers.

I don't use VOD (useless on my crappy DSL connection), but my router tracks per-device usage and my 630 uses just under 20MB of data every month on average. Not sure what that is, likely the "call home" stuff since it's not plugged into a phone line.

Shaw Direct - How to Connect to Shaw Direct on Demand

If you are concerned about the amount of data Shaw Direct On Demand will use, you can set a limit on the maximum download rate when streaming content. Usage settings range from 8 Mbps (3.52 GB/hour watched) to 5 Mbps (2.20 GB/hour) for HD and down to 2 Mbps (0.88 GB/hour) for SD.

The amount of data usage would be minor when you're not streaming a video.
