Shaw announces new long distance rates for Asia
Shaw today announced new long distance telephone rates for digital phone customers calling China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Under the new Asia Unlimited Calling Plan, residential phone customers can now make unlimited calls to landline and mobile numbers in China, Hong Kong and Singapore, and to landline numbers in Taiwan for $6.95 per month.
One in five U.S. homes has no landline phone
In the second quarter of 2009, over one in five U.S. households (21%) reported they are wireless cellular only—an increase of 16% from the past year according to a recent report from Nielsen.
The Nielsen Convergence Report, which surveyed more than 32,000 U.S. online and mail respondents, also found that 88% of all U.S. households now have a wireless phone with the majority maintaining a traditional landline at home.
Videotron tops one million cable phone customers
On November 25th, Videotron became the first cable company in Canada to reach one million cable telephone customers.
The company reached the milestone just under five years after it entered the landline telephone market.
Revenues fall 14% at Primus Canada
Primus Telecommunications Group Inc., the U.S. parent company of Primus Canada, today reported its third quarter 2009 financial results, the first since the company emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
In Canada, net revenue in the quarter decreased $9.4 million, or 14% from the same period a year earlier.
New area code for Northern Ontario announced
In a Telecom decision handed down today, the CRTC has announced that Northern Ontario will be getting a new area in 2011.
The new area codes is in response to the Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA) reports to the CRTC in March of this year that had warned that the region was expected to run out of 705 telephone numbers by October 2012.
Canadian area codes 343 and 579 announced
The Telecommunications Alliance announced today that residents within area code 613 in Eastern Ontario and residents within area code 450 surrounding Montreal will be getting new area codes in 2010.
