Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium announced today it would broadcast fifty-seven hours of high-definition television coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in English and French.

Feb 2010: It’s still illegal to watch HBO in Canada!

In 1995, Keith Spicer, then head of the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) was interviewed by CBC television personality Pamela Wallin and was asked if the federal government would implement laws prohibiting Canadians from watching HBO and U.S. Direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television signals in this country.

Mr. Spicer replied “Absolutely no. We have spent, this country and the western world has spent 40 years telling the Russians it was immoral to block broadcasts. We’re certainly not going to start doing that in Canada. Canadians are free people and they should act freely.”

Day 15 Olympics: Men’s Hockey Semifinals

After last night’s big win by the Canadian women’s hockey team over Team USA, the Men’s hockey team return to the ice today to play the men’s second semi-final against Slovakia beginning at 3:30pm Pacific time.

Other highlights today include the men’s hockey first semi-final between the USA and Finland, women’s gold and bronze medal curling match-ups, men’s 500m short track speed skating final, men’s 5000m short track relay final and women’s 1000m short track speed skating final.

Day 14 Olympics: Battle for women’s hockey gold

After last nights big win by the Canadian mens hockey team over Russia, the Canadian Women’s hockey team takes centre stage when they play for gold against the Americans beginning at 3:30pm PT.

Other highlights today in include the men’s and women’s curling semifinals, Women’s cross-country 4×5K relay classic/free, Women’s free skate and the Men’s aerials.
