New PS3 Models feature more storage space

In a corporate blog posting this week, Sony has announced that it will introduce two new higher capacity models of the PS3 system.

The new 160GB and 320GB PS3 systems will offer approximately 33% more storage at price points comparable to existing units.

Playstation Video Store opens in Canada

Almost two years after it opened in the United State, the Sony Playstation Video store has now opened in Canada in English and French to compete with the Apple iTunes movie store.

Sony says the more than 1,000 movies and TV shows are available in High-Definition (HD) or Standard Definition (SD), with movies available to rent from CA$3.99, movies to purchase from CA$9.99, and TV shows to purchase from CA$1.99.

Sony’s PS3 increases global market share in Q1

Sony’s PlayStation 3 console increased its global market share of current generation consoles to 31% in the first quarter of 2010 according to a report from Strategy Analytics.

The research firm says console sales are typically weak in the first quarter but does provide a useful indicator to the relative performance of competing platforms.

Consumers planning to spend more on electronics this Xmas

U.S. consumers plan to spend more on consumer electronics this holiday season, as technology garners a larger share of holiday gift budgets, according to a new survey released today by the Consumer Electronics Association. (CEA)

The industry trade group 16th annual Holiday Purchase Pattern Study conducted in September found that four out of five adults (80 percent) plan on buying CE products this holiday season, the highest results in the 16 years of the survey.
