Sony announces updated eReaders
Sony this week announced updated versions of its Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition eReaders will go on sale in Canada next week.
The company says the new devices are smaller and lighter than their predecessors and feature an improved e-Ink display with touchscreen capabilities
iPad now shipping within 24 hours
The mad rush for Apple iPads appears to have finally subsided as wait times for one of this year’s hottest consumer electronic devices has virtually vanished.
The Apple online stores in Canada and the United States are now saying they will ship all versions of the tablet device within 24 hours of ordering, down from as much as two weeks when the product first came out.
Amazon’s newest Kindle selling like hotcakes
The latest generation of Amazon Kindle readers are selling faster than at anytime in their history according to a statement put out by the company today.
Amazon says it began shipping the new devices to customers who had pre-ordered today, two days earlier than previously announced.
Garmin recalls 1.25 million GPS devices
Garmin announced today it is recalling 1.25 million personal navigation devices sold worldwide that contain batteries which may overheat and present a fire hazard.
The issue has been identified in less than ten cases and Garmin says none of the reported incidents has caused an injury or significant property damage.
Madden NFL 2011 now availabe for iPad
Electronic Arts announced today that its popular Madden NFL video game franchise now includes an Apple iPad version.
Starting today, Madden NFL 11 for the iPad is available from the Canadian iTunes app store for $12.99. An iPhone and iPod Touch version is also available for $7.99.
Score Media releases free iPad Sports app
Score Media has launched a free new sports app designed for the Apple iPad.
The broadcaster says its “TheScore iPad Edition” features news, scores, stats and standings from every major sports league plus video and audio content from the company’s Television, Radio and web properties.
Study finds reading ebooks takes longer than paper
A recent study by Jacob Nielsen of the Nielsen Normat Group has found that if you want to read a book quickly, you’re better off reading a paper edition than a digital edition.
Nielsen compared the reading times of twenty four people using three different e-book methods – the PC, the Kindle 2, and the iPad — and then compared them to reading off regular paper.
Kobo ebook reader gets firmware update
Owners of the Kobo eBook reader will be happy to learn that a firmware update is now being released which addresses a number of significant issues.
Features of the new firmware include: improved font scaling; ability to hide pre-loaded books, a bug fix which improves battery life while the reader is in standby mode; and changes to charging light to better inform users when unit is done charging.
