TSN announces this years NHL broadcast schedule

TSN this week announced its hockey schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 regular season.

The schedule includes 76 games on TSN and 48 games on TSN2 with all 124 games available in high definition to subscribers of TSN HD and TSN2 HD. In addition, TSN and TSN2 have pre-season action featuring all six Canadian clubs.

FIBA World Championships to air on TSN2

TSN has announced a two year deal with Canada Basketball that will give TSN2 the right to air the upcoming 2010 FIBA World Championship.

The FIBA World Championship is a world basketball tournament for men’s national teams hosted every four years by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

TVO HD and TVO on demand coming to Rogers Cable

Rogers has added the high definition version of TV Ontario (TVO) to its digital basic package in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

In the coming weeks, TVOHD channel 580 will also be added to the basic digital cable package in the rest of Ontario.

TV Networks audience greying faster than population

The median age, the age at which half its audience was younger and half older for viewers of the big four U.S. Television Networks is now 51, according to a report by veteran media analyst Steve Sternberg.

The report says the median age has climbed at twice the rate of the general U.S. population over the last twenty years.

Global TV announces Fall line-up and premieres

Global Television last week announced its 2010 fall television line-up. Eighteen shows return in primetime along with new shows such as Shattered, Hawaii Five-O, Lone Star and Outlaw.

The season begins with the premiere of Shattered on September 1st with the bulk of premieres taking place the week of September 20th.

Competition Bureau clears Shaw’s acquisition of Canwest

The Competition Bureau of Canada announced today that it will not challenge Shaw Communications Inc.’s proposed acquisition of the over-the-air and specialty television businesses of Canwest Global Communications Corp.

The federal agency said that following a significant review, it had concluded the takeover would not reduce competition in the television industry in this country.

Rogers Sportsnet One goes on air August 14th

Rogers Media has announced that it will launch Rogers “Sportsnet One,” a mainstream sports television station on Saturday, August 14th.

Once the station is up and running, Rogers will have five channels in its SportsNet line-up including Sportsnet ONE and four regional channels Sportsnet East, Ontario, West, and Pacific.

IZOD IndyCar Series in Canada next two weeks

The IZOD IndyCar Series comes to Canada for the next weeks with races in Toronto on July 18th and in Edmonton the following weekend, July 25th.

This weekend Canadian open wheel racing fans will be able to catch all the live action on ABC and TSN2 beginning Sunday at 12:30pm ET.
