Super Bowl XLIV was the most-watched Super Bowl ever in Canada with a record average audience of 6.7 million viewers in Canada on CTV (6.025 million) and RDS (650,000).

Overnight data from BBM Canada has found that audiences peaked at 8 million viewers in the final minutes of the fourth quarter as the New Orleans Saints’ Tracy Porter returned a Peyton Manning interception for a touchdown, sealing the Saints victory.

NFL and CTV extend multi-year broadcast deal

The National Football League and CTV have announced a four-year extension of its broadcast partnership which gives the network exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to the NFL championship game through to Super Bowl XLVIII.

Financial details of the deal which covers the 2010 to 2013 NFL seasons were not disclosed.

Select cable companies to offer Olympic VOD coverage

CTV and Rogers media have announced plans to offer viewers at select Canadian cable companies more than 700 hours of Video On Demand television coverage of the 2010 Winter Games.

Video on Demand (VOD) is a digital cable television service which allows a viewer to order a television program from an on-screen menu and have it delivered instantly to the television set, typically with the ability to pause, stop, rewind and fast forward programming.

Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra in HD at Cineplex theatres

Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, featuring Placido Domingo, will air in high definition at over 90 Cineplex movie theatres this Saturday February 6th at 1pm.

The opera marks the seventh performance of the season as part of The Met: Live in HD series and will be transmitted live from New York via satellite to the theatres.
