Shomi Will Be Available to All Canadians Starting This Summer

Well, it’s official – Shomi, Rogers and Shaw’s joint venture streaming service, will soon be available across the country.

n-SHOMI-largeShomi was first launched in November in beta form for Rogers and Shaw internet and cable customers.

“The beta has been a huge success and we’re excited to now bring it to all Canadians. We’ve taken the time to work out the kinks so members can enjoy a great user interface and viewing experience,” said David Asch, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Shomi.

The other great news? New members will receive their first month of Shomi free, with a monthly subscription fee of $8.99 to follow.

Digitally savvy Canadians will also be able to use Shomi across a variety of platforms –  tablet, mobile, online, Xbox 360, Apple TV, Chromecast, as well as set-top boxes for Rogers and Shaw TV subscribers.

Shomi is touting their Canadian-exclusive content deals for shows such as the Golden Globe winning Transparent, iZombie and Jane the Virgin, as well as Canadian content like Rookie Blue and Vikings. The streaming service will also feature past seasons of hugely successful shows like Modern Family and Sons of Anarchy.

While the Shomi team has yet to reveal an official launch date for its wide release, they’ve set up a couple neat ways to keep interested parties in the loop. If you’re on Twitter, you can go to www.shomi4everyone.com and retweet the message to receive an alert the moment Shomi is available for signup. If Twitter’s not your thing, head on over to www.shomi.com and enter your email address to receive a similar alert.

So, what’s the verdict, Digital Canadians? Will you be giving Shomi a shot this summer? Leave a comment or discuss in our Television Industry forums.
