Videtron Adds New TV Service: illico TV New Generation

Videotron will unveil a new, interactive HD service to its Quebec City customers on April 4th: illico TV new generation.

Billed as a “technologically advanced, evolutionary platform”, the new service provides a vast selection of programming, extensive search functions, simple one-click recording, new visual viewing configurations, plus several interactive apps to simplify navigation.

“With the advent of illico TV new generation, our vision of offering our customers the most advanced television experience has become a reality,” said Robert Depatie, President and CEO of Videotron.

“We developed it in-house. More than 500 Videotron employees worked to create a powerful platform tailored to the needs of Quebecers and featuring navigation functionalities that stand apart from everything else on the market by virtue of their simplicity and intuitiveness,” added Depatie.

In early April, customers in the Quebec City area, including Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Riviere-du-Loup, will be able to access an on-demand catalogue of more than 30,000 titles and the largest selection of French-language HD channels and movies in Canada. Additionally, exclusive webcam feeds, interactive features and enriched video content adapted for different screens will add to the enjoyment.

Montreal residents will have to wait until the summer months to participate in viewership.

Samsung and Cisco will be supplying the set-top boxes for the illico service, whose interactive software applications were primarily developed by Alticast.
