Cogeco dropping HDNet at the end of January

Cogeco, the country’s fourth largest cable television operator, has announced that it will drop HDNet from its high definition (HD) television line-up at the end of this month.

The removal of the digital channel follows similar moves by Rogers cable and Bell TV. Bell TV dropped HDNet in December 2010 after a contract dispute while Rogers replaced the station last November 1st with the Rogers owned FX Canada.

HDNet, which has been broadcasting exclusively in high-definition since 2001, is still available in Western Canada from Shaw Cable and in Ontario and Quebec from Shaw Direct.
