Microsoft releases SkyDrive apps for iPhone and Windows Phone

In a corporate blog posting today, Microsoft has announced the release of the SkyDrive app for iPhone and Windows Phone 7.5.

Microsoft says that the new apps will allow users to access, manage and share files stored on their Microsoft Skydrive from their smartphone. The app will also let users upload photos or videos directly from their phone to SkyDrive.

Windows Live SkyDrive, initially called Windows Live Folders, is a free-of-charge file hosting service for Microsoft Live users that offers users 25 GB of free personal storage on the web with individual files limited to 100 MB.

“As devices proliferate, having a great experience on the Web is only one piece of a pretty complex puzzle,” Microsoft’s Mike Torres wrote. “People are choosing where to put their files based on how portable and accessible they are across the various devices they use; therefore, it’s critical that we continue to extend the SkyDrive experience to the devices you use every day.”

For iOS users, the application also works on an iPod Touch or iPad with iOS 4.0 or later.
