Web Browser Share for October
Once again, Google’s Chrome web browser continued to gain market share on the desktop at the expense of Internet Explorer and Firefox in October 2011 according to recent figures published by NetMarketshare.
Total worldwide browser usage in September 2011 for Chrome was 17.62% up over 1.4 percentage points from September and more than double the 8.76% recorded in the same month of 2010.
Internet Explorer remained the browser of choice on the desktop with a 52.63% share, down significantly from 60.99% in October 2010. Firefox was the second most popular browser in September with a 22.51% share, down from 23.55% in the same month a year earlier.

Mobile / Tablet Browser Share
Desktop browsers accounted for 94.2% of internet usage in October 2011 with Mobile devices including tablets accounting for 5.5% of internet usage.

The top browser among Mobile and Tablet users in October was Apple’s Safari with a 62.17% market share up from a 55.59% market share in September. Apple big gain in market share in October came at the expense of the Android Browser (down over 2.5%), an Symbian (down over 2%).
