Number of Telus TV subscribers up 70% in last year

In financial results released today, Telus announced that. as of September 30, 2011, the company had 453,000 television subscribers in Western Canada.

That number is up 70.3% from 266,000 at September 30, 2010 and up more than 230% from 137,000 on September 30, 2009.

Telus offers two types of television service in Western Canada. The first is a rebranded version of the Bell TV direct-to-home satellite television offering which Telus has been selling in British Columbia and Alberta since July 2010.

The second is an IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service called Optik TV, which is similar to digital cable or satellite television. The difference with Optik TV is the television signals are distributed to viewers using a high speed internet connection over phone lines rather than through a cable or satellite connection. The Telus IPTV service, which competes aggressively with Shaw cable in several western cities including Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Vancouver, Kelowna & Vernon and Whistler.

Telus says its IPTV footprint (households that can potentially subscribe to IPTV service) is now 2.2 million households.

The company did not break out the number of subscribers by each service.

Telus TV is absolutly junk. I changed over 6 months ago and have had them here 3 times and replaced all boxes and again it does not work. Junk is all I can say. My advice to anyone is stay away until they fix all the major issues. We should be getting this service for free. I am in BC and I can tell you that Shaw was way better. I should never have listened to the bull they gave me in order to get my business.
