Mobilicity ousts its CEO
Toronto based Mobilicity announced last Friday the appointment of Stewart Lyons as President of the company, replacing departing CEO Dave Dobbin.
The privately owned firm says Dobbin was leaving Mobilicity to “pursue other interests,” an oft used euphemism employed when a CEO has been sacked by the organization.
In an email to the Globe and Mail, Mobilicity Chairman John Bitove described Dobbin as a “very sold network guy” whose weakness was his lack of a “consumer background.”
Bitove, whose consumer experience includes leading the failed Priszm Income Fund which filed for court protection in April (the company which operates more than 400 KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell franchises across Canada) and XM Radio which lost 80% of its value before its merger with Sirius Canada, will assume the role of Executive Chairman.
Lyons was formerly the COO of Mobilicity overseeing the operation and implementation of the wireless network, billing and operational support systems, information technology, handset acquisition and logistics, as well as the call centre and customer care department. Previously Lyons was Executive Vice President of XM Satellite Radio Canada.
