Acer Iconia Tab A501 now out in Canada
The Acer Iconia Tab A501 with HSPA+, an Android powered 10.1-inch touch screen tablet, is now on-sale in Canada.
Encased in an silver brushed metal aluminum chassis, features of the device include a NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile 1GHz dual-core processor and integrated GeForce GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, Bluetooth, Micro SDHC slot and micro USB port.
Two integrated cameras include a 5 megapixel rear-facing model with flash and auto-focus and a 2 MP fixed-focused front-facing webcam enables video calling.
An ambient sensor enables the Tab A501 to be used in many types of environments, while the integrated accelerometer allows auto-rotation between portrait and landscape modes.
The device weighs 1.7 pounds and measures 10.2(w) x 7(d) x 0.5(h)-inches. Inside is two 3260 mAh Li-polymer batteries which Acer says can provide up to eight hours of playback for casual games, eight hours of HD video playback or 10 hours of WiFi Internet browsing.

The Android Honeycomb tablet also comes pre-installed with Acer LumiRead and Google Book eReading apps, while Zinio is pre-installed for reading digital magazines. Additional apps can be downloaded from the Android Market and other Android-based app sites.
Reviews of the device from the U.S., where it is sold by AT&T, have generally been positive with Slashgear complementing its brushed aluminum design and relatively low cost. Engadget gave the A501 a lukewarm review by recommending it to Iconia A500 users who needed the added connectivity of a data plan.
The Acer Iconia Tab A501 is available from Glentel whose retail operations in Canada include Wireless Wave, Tbooth wireless and Wirleess etc on a 3 year data plan from Rogers Wireless for $200.
