Cogeco increases price, caps and speed of its internet offerings

Cogeco Cable, Canada’s fourth largest cable operator, announced this week that is has revamped its internet offerings in Ontario and Quebec.

On the positive side, the changes include increased download speeds and bandwidth caps. On the downside are higher prices. Digital Home readers have been reporting price increases of $2 to $4 for the Standard package, now called Turbo 14.

Cogeco customers continue to receive much better internet pricing in Quebec than in Ontario. For example the Turbo 14 (formerly the standard package is $9 a month cheaper in Quebec and the Turbo 20 is $5 per month cheaper plus an extra 20 GB of bandwidth.

Well what a surprise. We have recently seen stories of yet another rate increase from Bell, Shaw,
Cogeco and I predict Rogers any day now. Annual increases are one thing but these telecoms are jacking up rates at least twice and sometimes three times a year. I guess the only lesson for us poor consumers to take from this is that there is no pocket in Canada that these companies wont pick . Ok, they are a business and have the right to a reasonable profit but this is just ludicrous. I am with Shaw and my increase over the last 10 years is more than two and half times the inflation rate. If your wages and pension have gone up at the same rate you are doing OK but methinks that is not the case for most of us.
