Cogeco Cable has announced the addition of TVA Sports to its digital cable line-up in Quebec starting on Friday, October 14th.

Launched last month, the new French-language sports channel from Quebecor Media is being positioned as the first major competitor to Bell Media's RDS, the only other general-interest French language sports channel in the country.

The new TVA Sports channel offers programming that focuses on a wide array of sports as well as sports news broadcasts. Featured are, among others the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the Interbox Group, GYM, the Montréal Impact, the Ligue des Champions, Red Bull Crashed Ice, the Dew Tour, the Québec Open de volleyball and the Vélirium de Québec.

"We're extremely pleased to be able to carry it." said Cogeco VP Ron Perrotta.

Cogeco says digital cable customers in Québec will be able to watch TVA Sports, free of charge, until October 31, 2012. Following the free preview, TVA Sports will be included in Cogeco Cable's Franco and Sélectif Digital Television packages.

A standard definition version of the channel will be available on channel 88 while the high definition version will air on channel 538.

TVA Sports is also carried on Shaw Direct and Videotron digital cable.
