Egyptian owned Orascom, the majority of owners of Globalive in Canada, this week announced their financial results for the first half of 2011 which included some interesting figures for is Wind Mobile operations in this country.

Orascom reported that Wind gained 45,341 new customers in the second quarter up from growth of 39,000 in the first quarter of this year.

The new additions mean that, as of June 30, 2011, Wind Mobile had 317,000 wireless subscribers in five markets: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa and Toronto. Wind Mobile is now Canada's sixth largest wireless provider.

Since the beginning of 2011, Wind has added over 84,000 subscribers.

After the first quarter, Wind announced that it had gained more new subscribers in the quarter than either Bell, Telus or Rogers Wireless. That winning streak ended in the second quarter, as Rogers, Telus and Bell added 135,000 and 94,000 new subscribers respectively. Wind did outgain Bell Mobility, however, who gained just 37,507 new subs in the April to June timeframe.

Orascom also reported that Average Revenue per User or ARPU in the second quarter was $27.80 per subscriber, up from $26.70 in the January to March quarter.
