Sirius XM drops BBC Radio 1

Without any notice to listeners, subscription satellite radio provider Sirius XM has dropped BBC Radio 1 from its line-up as of 12:00 AM this morning.

BBC Radio 1 is a national radio station operated out of the U.K. by the British Broadcasting Corporation which broadcasts current popular music and chart hits throughout the day.

The Sirius simulcasts were time shifted five hours to allow U.S. and Canadian listeners in the Eastern Time Zone to hear Radio 1 at the same time of day as UK listeners.

The Sirius XM website makes no mention of why the station was dropped. The site simply says the BBC Radio 1 is no longer and available and directs listeners to listen for pop hits on SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2) or 20 on 20 (Ch. 3).

Sirius really messed up on this one. I’d threaten to cancel my subscription however, I have a lifetime membership.

Radio 1 was some Sirius-ly good programming, stuff you can’t find elsewhere on the dial.

    Bring back BBC 1!

Are there any other channels on XM that play the variety that BBC 1 does? I really enjoyed the music and talk from across the pond. Really boneheaded move on XM’s part!

  3. Chad from SK says:

I’m really pissed! Sirius currently has nothing to replace the content that Radio 1 offered. This seriously affected my desire to listen to any other radio station on Sirius! I’m pissed … did I say that already?

  5. Rick says:

Very disappointed with satellite radio, the reason I got it was to listen to music from around the world! Thinking about cancelling my subscription to XM radio! It is to bad that companies like this don;t listen to the viewers!

  6. KES says:

I will be discontinuing my subscription which is due to end this month.
