Netflix creates section “Just for Kids”

In a nod towards the attracting more users with young children, California based Netflix has announced the introduction of new “Just for Kids” section on the Netflix website.

The creation of the kid friendly section was in in recognition that almost half of the 25 million Netflix members in the United States and Canada have instantly watched at least two movies or shows made for kids in the last 90 days.

“Just for Kids” will feature content suited for children 12 and under including such popular favourites as Arthur, Dora the Explorer, Pingu, SpongeBob SquarePants and Thomas and Friends.

Kids and parents can scan through rows movies and shows which are organized by kid friendly groupings like superheroes, princesses, dinosaurs and girl power. Each title will feature a clear and simple descriptions of the plot of each title. Netflix says it used ratings and reviews from Common Sense Media, a non-profit that provides independent ratings and reviews for kids programming, to develop its content line-up.

The “Just for Kids” experience is currently on available on the Netflix website, however, Netflix says it will roll out similar functionality to come on the Wii, iPad, Xbox, Playstation and other devices over the next year.
