CHCH-TV Hamilton completes the digital OTA transition

CHCH-TV, Hamilton, Ontario is making the analog to digital transition two weeks ahead of deadline. Rather than waiting for the August 31 deadline, CHCH says it will make the switch today, Monday August 15th, at 9:30 a.m, moving from analog over-the-air (OTA) transmitters to digital.

All major Canadian TV stations are to be broadcasting in digital by August 31, as mandated by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The move will improve signal and image quality, including high-definition broadcasts, while also freeing up valuable segments of the airwaves for other uses.

The station says the switch only applies to the CHCH transmitter in Hamilton. The analog to digital conversion for transmitters in Ottawa, London and Muskoka Ontario are slated to occur by the end of this month.

Members of Digital Home’s OTA forums who followed the conversion said the entire process was complete before 10:30am.

What a pain in the ass just to get a station that is so out of date with the times.
Most of the movies are “CRAP” and the news repeats itself all day. sigh…

ChCh may have been ahead of the curve on converting to digital, but guess what? It’s the only station that we can’t receive in the Toronto area. It just disappeared and never came back even after an autoscan with our digital converter. What’s the story?
