CBC launches Over-the-Air HD in Calgary and Edmonton

Just in time for Hockey Playoffs, the CBC has announced that its Over-The-Air digital television transmitters in Calgary and Edmonton will officially launch on April 1st.

The new high definition stations will also be available on Shaw Cable in the two Alberta Centres and will arrive on Telus TV on May 27th.

“With Calgary and Edmonton as Canada’s third and fourth largest English TV markets respectively, we’re really pleased to be adding these important members to Canada’s CBC HD family,” said Alan Dark of CBC.

While the official launch is tomorrow, Digital Home readers in Edmonton have reported to us that CBXT-DT in Edmonton was on the air on digital channel 5.1 sometime early this afternoon while our readers were still searching for CBRT-DT in Calgary to begin broadcasting.

Calgary’s CBRT-DT will found on digital channel 9.1.

Digital television enthusiasts in Calgary can discuss their reception results for CBRT-DT and CBXT-DT in Digital Home’s OTA Reception results forum in our Calgary and Edmonton discussion threads.

Is CBC Edmonton digital OTA being broadcast? I’m not receiving it.

Depending on the type of digital tuner you have, CBC Calgary may show up as channel 21.11 on your set instead of 9.1.
