Public Mobile roaming begins March 14th

Wireless phone provider Public Mobile has announced roaming coverage for its customers in most major cities in Ontario and Quebec, as well as areas in Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Alberta and B.C. beginning March 14th.

Intel announces new line of super-fast solid state drives

Intel announced today a new line of solid-state drives (SSD) which take advantage of Intel’s transition to higher speed SATA 6 Gigabits per second (Gbps) bus interfaces on the recently introduced 2nd Generation Intel Core processor-based platforms.

Supporting data transfers of up to 500 megabytes per second (MB/s), Intel says the new SSD 510 line of drives doubles the sequential read speeds, and at up to 315MB/s more than triples the sequential write speeds of Intel’s current 3Gbps SSDs.

Penthouse launching world’s first adult 3D channel

While 3DTV manufacturers would likely deny it, Digital Home is betting they gave out a little cheer this morning when it was announced that Penthouse Magazine would launch the world’s first adult 3D channel on March 1st.

Entire Blue Jays 2011 season to air on Rogers Sportsnet Radio and TV

Rogers Media announced this week that all 162 regular season Toronto Blue Jays games this year will air on Blue Jays Radio Network and at least one SportsNet television channel starting with the season-opener April 1st at against the Minnesota Twins at Rogers Centre.

Google says new search formula reduces the ranking of low quality sites

In a Google Blog posting this week, the search giant has announced a major change to its search algorithms in the United States which the company says will affect about one out of every nine queries.

Google says the change, which has been in the works for several months, is designed to reduce the rankings of low-quality sites which simply copy content from other websites or are simply not that useful while increasing the rankings for higher quality sites which feature original information and content.

Playhouse Disney télé launches on Videotron

Playhouse Disney télé, a commercial free French-language channel for preschoolers, will launch on Videotron on March 1st.

Programming on the channel includes Disney programming such as La Maison de Mickey (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), Les 101 Dalmatiens (The 101 Dalmatians), Agent spécial OSO (Special Agent OSO), and Canadian programs such as Marguerite et la bête féroce (Maggie and the Ferocious Beast) and Elliot (Elliot Moose).

New Apple MacBook Pros features Thunderbolt Technology

Apple today unveiled its new line of 13-, 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro notebooks which features Intel’s next generation processors, Thunderbolt I/O technology and a new FaceTime HD camera.

With two bi-directional channels, Apple claims that Thunderbolt, a technology developed by Intel, can transfer files at 10 gigabits per second, about twelve times faster than FireWire and twenty times faster than USB 2.0.

Mandatory ten-digit local dialing begins March 5th in Northern Ontario

Starting March 5, 2011, residents of the region served by the 705 area code in Northern Ontario will be required to dial 10 digits – the area code followed by the seven-digit phone number- for all local calls.

The transition period began on January 15, however, local calls will no longer be automatically completed if they are dialed without the 705 area code.
