Rogers ramping up rates on March 1st

Rogers Cable began notifying customers this week that they can expect rate increases for their cable, high speed internet and home phone service beginning March 1st.

The biggest increases are in cable television where basic cable is set to shoot up 3.2% to $32.49 a month while VIP Digital Cable customers will see rates increase a whopping 5.8% to $63.99 a month.

Digital Home phone users on the lite plan will see their monthly fee increase by 6.25% from $16 a month to $17 a month while Value Plan International will see an increase of 2.9% to $34.95 per month.

High Speed Internet who saw big price increases and dramatic reductions in their service last year get a bit of a break this. The monthly cost of Internet plans will remain constant, however, the cost of renting a Standard or G Home networking modem will increase between 50 cents and a dollar a month.

It doesn’t matter if you use Netflix, or download movies/tv shows off the internet versus watching tv via cable/satelite. You still need a high speed connection with a lot of bandwidth. You may have a cheap or non existant cable bill, but you internet bills will dramtically increase.

The Monthly Caps seriously need to go. I feel like I’m getting held hostage and have to plan my internet usage. What is the ultimate goal? Per usage billing like electricity? Is teksavvy the way to go or are they going to get squeezed as well.
