Sirius XM and NFL announce 5 year broadcast extension

Sirius XM Radio said today that its subscriber base recently passed the 20 million mark and that it has extended its broadcast and marketing agreement with the NFL for another five years.

The new deal means Sirius subscribers and XM subscribers who subscribe to the Best of Sirius programming package will be able to hear every NFL pre-season, regular season and playoff game right through to the 2016 Super Bowl

Bell Mobility launches higher speed Turbo Hub

Bell today released the NetGear MBR 1210 Turbo Hub, a high speed wireless hotpsot which allows up to 15 devices to connect to the internet via Bell Mobility’s HSPA+ mobile network.

To use, just plug the Hub into a power outlet and then connect your computer, smartphone, iPad or other device to the hub via WiFi or Ethernet.

Mobilicity announces distribution deal with HMV

Mobilicity, providers of 3G Wireless service in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Ottawa and music retailer hmv have announced a new distribution agreement.

The deal means Mobilicity mobile phones will soon be available at select hmv locations in Toronto and Ottaw

Dr. Laura on Sirius XM Radio beginning in 2011

Subscription satellite radio provider Sirius XM said today that it would be the exclusive home to a live, daily call-in show hosted by Dr. Laura Schlessinger, a 63 year old conservative American talk radio host beginning January 3, 2011.

In August 2010, Schlessinger announced that she would be ending her syndicated radio show at the end of 2010, following a controversy stirred by her multiple on-air uses of the “n-word”.

Sun TV News launching March 2011

In a broadcasting decisions handed down last week by the CRTC, the federal regulator has approved an application by Quebecor for a new Canadian Category 2 digital specialty news channel called Sun News.

The new station, which will headquartered in downtown Toronto near the Toronto Sun newspaper offices, is now expected to launch in March of 2011.

Danny Williams appears on CBC’s 22 Minutes for last time

This Hour Has 22 Minutes, a weekly satirical Canadian television comedy that airs on CBC Television, will host Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams for the last time this week.

The popular premier, who has led the province for over seven years, resigned his post last week and will step down as Premier at the end of this week.

E! Channel begins again today

A new Canadian E! television Channel will replace Star! Television beginning today (November 29th) at noon.

Previously E! Canada had operated in Canada from 2001 to 2009 under the ownership of Canwest but was forced to shut down when Canwest encountered its financial difficutlites which eventually led to it filing for bankruptcy protection.

Slingplayer App for the iPad released

Sling Media this week released the SlingPlayer Mobile player for the Apple iPad.

The software application is the mobile equivalent of the Sling Player software which lets users remotely control their Slingbox Solo or Pro-HD.
