Kobo announces Wireless ebook reader

Kobo, which released its first low cost eBook reader in May, today announced an upgraded Kobo Wireless eReader which will sell for the same price beginning in mid to late October.

The company says the new hardware features WiFi connectivity; faster performance; longer battery life; and a sharper eInk screen.

The device comes in three colours: Onyx, Porcelain with Metallic Silver back, and Porcelain with a Pearl Lilac back.

WiFi Wireless connectivity means owners will be able to shop and download titles directly to the device in under a minute rather than having to use a PC.

While the ability to quickly download titles is a nice feature, speed and performance are even more important and the new Kobo reader delivers on both. Thanks to a new faster processor and sharper eInk screen, Kobo says page turning is two and half times faster and reading quality is significantly improved thanks to sharper graphics.

The Kobo Wireless eReader will sell in Canada and in the United States beginning in mid to late October for $149 CDN and $139 USD respectively. Online pre-orders begin today.
