Eastlink answers subscribers Sportsnet One questions

EastLink Cable, Canada’s largest privately owned cable operator, says it continues to receive numerous inquiries from subscribers asking when they will be able to see Rogers Sportsnet One.

The simple reason why Sportsnet One is not available on EastLink at this time is because Eastlink and Rogers Media have been unable to negotiate a carriage deal.

Majority owner of Wind Mobile calls Canada a backwater

In a exclusive interview with the Globe and Mail published yesterday, Naguib Sawiris, Executive chairman of Orascom Telecom Holding SAE and Weather Investments SpA has called Canada a telecom backwater.

For those that don’t know, Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E is an Egyptian corporation which operates wireless networks in the Middle East, Africa and Asia and holds a 65% interest in Wind Mobile.

Older Adults rapidly embracing social networking

Social networking use among internet users ages 50 and older nearly doubled in the United States, from 22% in April 2009 to 42% in May 2010, according to a recent report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

During the same time frame social networking use among internet users ages 50-64 grew by 88%–from 25% to 47% and over 100%, from 13% to 26% among people aged 65 an older

Number of U.S. TV Households climbs by a million

The total number of TV households for the 2010-2011 broadcast season in the U.S. will climb to 115.9 million, an increase of one million homes from last year according to Nielsen.

The ratings giant estimates the number of persons age two and older in those households will increase more than two million to 294.6 million people.

iPad now shipping within 24 hours

The mad rush for Apple iPads appears to have finally subsided as wait times for one of this year’s hottest consumer electronic devices has virtually vanished.

The Apple online stores in Canada and the United States are now saying they will ship all versions of the tablet device within 24 hours of ordering, down from as much as two weeks when the product first came out.

Nintendo cutting price of DSi and DSi XL Systems

Nintendo announced today it is dropping the price of its Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL video game systems in the United States.

Starting September 12th, the Nintendo DSi system will sell in the U.S. for $149.99, down from $169.99. The Nintendo DSi XL system will be $169.99, down from $189.99. Pricing for the Nintendo DS Lite model will remain at a suggested retail price of $129.99.

TSN announces this years NHL broadcast schedule

TSN this week announced its hockey schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 regular season.

The schedule includes 76 games on TSN and 48 games on TSN2 with all 124 games available in high definition to subscribers of TSN HD and TSN2 HD. In addition, TSN and TSN2 have pre-season action featuring all six Canadian clubs.
