Blackberry maker RIM purchases Viigo

Viigo, makers of mobile apps for the delivery of media content to smartphones like the BlackBerry, has been purchased by Blackberry maker Research in Motion.

The privately Toronto based company of about 50 persons announced the deal on its website last friday. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The company had been in the news recently afer it announced a deal with Business Wire to deliver news to BlackBerry and Windows Mobile-equipped portable devices.

“Our team has joined RIM’s global organization and will continue to bring our expertise in BlackBerry application development and real-time content delivery to the BlackBerry platform,” wrote CEO Mark Ruddock on the company’s website.
