Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, featuring Placido Domingo, will air in high definition at over 90 Cineplex movie theatres this Saturday February 6th at 1pm.

The opera marks the seventh performance of the season as part of The Met: Live in HD series and will be transmitted live from New York via satellite to the theatres.

Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi is based on the play Simón Bocanegra (1843) by Antonio García Gutiérrez. It was first performed at Teatro La Fenice, Venice on 12 March 1857. Given the difficulties with the original plot, a revised version, with text changes by Arrigo Boito, was first performed at La Scala, Milan on 24 March 1881.

The opera runs 3 hours and 40 minutes and features Adrianne Pieczonka, James Morris, Marcello Giordani, and Placido Domingo. James Levine will conduct.

Admission prices vary by location. Digital Home inquired at the Queensway Cineplex Theatre in Toronto and was informed the price for Adults, seniors and children are $26.40, $22.95 and $19.50 respectively.
