CIBC releases iPhone banking app
CIBC, Canada’s fifth largest bank, has become the first major Canadian bank to offer a mobile banking App.
The free application lets CIBC customers check account balances, transfer funds, pay bills and send Email Money Transfers from their iPhone or iPod touch.
The new Mobile Banking App also uses GPS technology in the iPhone to help customers find their nearest branch or ABM based on their current location. CIBC says additional enhancements are expected in the coming months.
“Our clients told us they want more flexibility to bank however and whenever they want and we’ve responded,” said Sonia Baxendale, President CIBC Retail Markets.
The app, which is now available from the iTunes Canada App store, has so far been highly rated by users with 198 out of 286 reviewers giving the app a five star rating.

I wonder if this will work with PC Finnancial, or if CIBC plans to release one for PC?
I was asking myself the same thing. It would be great to have that for PC Financial.
Considering you can’t even do email money xfers with PC Financial, I wouldn’t count on it. Its been explained to me that they are completely different systems.
Not that it really matters, but I believe Scotiabank had an iPhone application out before CIBC did. That aside, I hope RBC releases one because navigating their website is quite cumbersome on a mobile.
Barry, the Scotiabank app was strictly for finding Scotiabank ABM’s and branches. CIBC is the first bank to offer an app that allows users to do online banking.
Great, finally, banking from my phone, but what about the important stuff, like encryption? How secure is it to bank from a mobile phone? i’m asking because I honestly don’t know, not because I’m a smart ass
