Bell releases Mobile TV app for iPhone

Bell has announced Mobile TV, a new Apple iPhone app which gives Bell Mobility customers access to live TV programming.

Available from the iTunes Canada app store, the program lets subscribers watch programming on CBC, CTV, Muchmusic, TSN, SportsNet, the Weather Network and more.

The application is free of charge for iPhone users (iPhone OS 3.0 or later), however, readers should note that the Bell Mobile TV will only work with the Bell 3G network. This means that the Mobile TV iPhone app can only be used by Bell Mobility customers on an iPhone (iPod Touch users are shut out) and it will not work over Wifi.

If you plan on using the app on a regular basis, then be sure to have a sizable data plan or be prepared to rack up some hefty data usage charges.

Version 1.1.14 of the Bell Mobile TV app is now available free of charge from the iTunes Canada app store.

Cool. I hope other carriers will do the same (Rogers / Fido, Telus). Too bad the app doesn’t work on other networks.

I subscribed for this service with Bell and downloaded the app but when I hit CBC Newsnetwork or Weather Network it tells me to phone the 1-800 #. Is it because it is a new service and they are still putting things together?

the reason its free is because it will make them 1000s of $ in data usage…… and with 500mb plans so dang $$$$$ I cant see how this will take off unless people have money to burn!
