XM Canada iPhone app now available from iTunes

xm_canada_iphone_appXM Canada today announced that its Apple iPhone or iPod touch application for satellite radio subscribers in Canada is now available at the iTunes Canada App store.

The app employs the same interface as the Sirius Canada iPhone app released two weeks ago and the same interface as the Sirius XM app released in the U.S. in June.

Through the XM application, subscribers can access over 100 stations from XM Canada including NHL Home Ice and MLB Home plate.

The application is free from the Canadian iTunes app store, however, in order to use it, XM satellite radio subscribers will need to spend an additional $3 per month to listen. If you are not an XM Canada subscriber, you can subscribe to the app only version for $8 per month.

Once the app is downloaded onto your iPhone or iPod Touch, users simply touch the XM icon and are presented with a list of music categories to choose from. First time users will be required to log on screen with their username and password.

As a loyal XM subscriber from day one. I was waiting for this app. I’m disappointed you want to charge for this. I was hoping to get better utility out of my subscription but, charging a premium on top of a premium in a world with many free options makes little sense to me. Enhancing product utility is a way of demonstrating loyalty and value to customers. We live in an age where continuous improvement is a consumer expectation and not simply a mechanism to generate more revenue. Thanks for the good times XM but our ride has come to an end. Perhaps I’ll spend the money on a Logitech Squeezebox.

Ditto! I too am a XM Satellite subscriber and would like to add XM radio to my existing home theatre however I believe that monthly $9.99 fee in addition to the $15.99 monthly car subscription is robbery. Now should they have offered it to me for a modest $4.99 monthly fee; I would not ony have jumped at the offer, I would have promoted XM to everyone. Now I will be advising others that XM not ony wants your money, they want all of it!!!

Ahh the great Canadian motto has reared its ugly head again. “Charge em and keep charging em. EH!” They must have gone the the Rogers school of nickle and dime your customers. Bad move here but then again people will get it because they are so use to just paying for every little thing they feel bad when its included in the price.

I have been an XM customer since Day 2. At one point, I had 4 units that I was paying for. Two were locked into long term contracts. I am down to two and, once my contract is up in March, I will be leaving the XM nation. The nickel and diming is the reason only. With the iPhone, I can get XM on ooTunes. The app only costs about $4.99, but I can get most of my XM programing thru that app. You access it thru your internet email address and password. Works great for me. ooTunes also allows you to access any radio station in the world that provides streaming from their website. The support is fantastic. If you can’t find your station, and you know they stream their music over the internet, they’ll get it up and running within a day or two. There are also internet stations available too. It’s the only app I’ve bought and worth 5 times the price, to me.

I am outraged by this additional charge! I was so excited when I heard XM Canada finally released an app. If they think I’m going to pay nearly $200/year and then charge me MORE money just to be able to access it on my iPhone?? Ummm, HELLLS no! I have been a loyal customer to XM for a few years and my term is coming to an end in January. Just because of this, I will not renew…and this is not all-talk. Gonna sell my equipment on eBay and buy a Sirius kit.
Until then, I will continue to enjoy XM radio on my iPhone through the ooTunes app…which works perfectly (at no additional cost!)
